    Shipwrecks and Drownings
    In the year 1831 there was a boat lost in Lake Allen. It was coming from the village of Drumshanbo with provision. It happened on the 2nd of April 1831, a fair day in Drumshanbo.
    A storm arose on the return journey and the boat was overturned. Fourteen lives were lost including ten women and four men. The accident occured between Ros Beag and Corry Point.
    John, Owen and Terence Carrigan and Myley Flynn were the names of the men who were lost. The people drowned were all natives of the "Parish of Inch" that is, Innismagrath, which lies to the north side of Lake Allen.
    The following song was made in connection with the tragedy:
    On the second of April 1831
    On Good Friday morning, at the rising of the sun,
    Neighbours going to market came flocking to the shore,
    But fourteen of that number returned there never more.
    Between Ros Beag and Corry Point,
    They all set out to sail,
    The wind blew from the Western,
    They had a pleasant gale.
    They sailed away most cheerfully,
    It caused their friends to weep
