    Local Cures (Contd):
    A Persistent Cough:
There is a herb known as mountain sage which is pulled and harvested in August between the two Lady Days. When cured it is tied in bundles and kept in a cool place. [Note: The two Lady Days mentioned seem to mean the 15th of August and the 8th of December]. This herb is brewed or boiled and a glassful each morning cures the most severe cough no matter how longstanding.
    Toothache
A frog rubbed on the gums three times is supposed to cure toothache.
    The "Smailcin":
An earthworm placed in the hand of a newborn child gives the cure of an eye disease known by the name of the smailcin. With this disease the eye gets inflamed and swollen. The cure is performed by three rubs of the hand into which the work was put, repeating while rubbing the prayer "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost".
    "The Evil" (Additional Note)
The seventh son of the seventh son or the seventh daughter of seventh daughter is reputed to possess the cure of "the evil".
    Second Sight:
The seventh son of the seventh son or the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter is reputed to have "second sight", that is, they are subject to take a trance a certain number of times during life in which is made known to them all their future life events and the events concerning that part of the world in which they live.
