- Lake Allen Disaster in 1831.On the 18th day of April 1831,
On Good Friday morning by the rising of the sun,
People going to market came flocking to the shore, but fourteen of that number returned back no more. II
Between Rossbeg and Corry Point,
They hoisted up their sail,
The wind it blew from the North East,
They had a pleasant gale.III
Sailing on most cheerfully which
caused their friends to weep,
That evening at Shavagran,
They perished in the deep.IV
Just as they were landing,
Young Johnnie he did say,
"Be quick and snake your market now
early in the day."
They all agreed to go at three, and sail along the shore.
But the Lord decreed as you may see
